Thank you to all the Registered Social Landlords that completed our survey. We had a response rate of 41% which gave us a fantastic insight into pets in the social housing sector. Currently we are partnered with Manor Estates Housing Association and are developing a toolkit with plans to expand across Scotland in the beginning of 2025. What are the benefits for social landlords?
We feel the benefits speak for themselves - happier people make happier tenants - but from a business point of view this translates to these potential benefits:
- Satisfaction – an overall happier tenant could translate to higher satisfaction levels
- Publicity – being recognised as an empathetic and inclusive landlord
- Trust and Transparency – tenants of a pet friendly landlord are less likely to have ‘hidden’ pets within their home
- Quicker turnover – void properties will be available to a wider range of households

Amazing! We’d love to hear from you. This is an exciting opportunity to work together to make social housing more pet friendly, or in some cases just more obviously pet friendly, for pet owning tenants (or potential tenants). Gaining Dogs Trust’s Accreditation will help support tenants with a robust set of policies, practices and support in place promoting responsible pet ownership.
